7 years of 3D-printing in the Netherlands
It is only 7 years ago that Frank Oxener and Bart Bakker built one of the first-3D printers in the Netherlands at PICNIC2007 in Amsterdam. Frank, together with Hanne van Essen and Dirk van Vreeswijk, were the founders of fablab.nl.
The printer was a Fab@Home model 1 from the ’the Open Source Personal Fabricator Project’ originating from Cornell in 2006. Here shown in the Mediamatic booth at PICNIC .
The syringe-based Fab@Home was ahead of its time and can be seen in the Science Museum in London. Our original is preserved at the Alkmaar FabLab Kaasfabriek.
Seven years ago almost no one, apart from a few RepRappers, was aware of 3D-printing. Now, seven years later, there is hardly anyone who is NOT aware of 3D-printing.
Which makes you think about the impact of 3D-printing seven years from now.
