King opens ICER-Lab in Ulft NL

This week Dutch King Willem Alexander opened the new fablab at ICER in Ulft. Ulft was in the past well known for its iron industry, of which a few classical buildings have been saved, restored and augmented.

The name ICER reflects the dutch word for iron: ijzer. Here director Barbara de Leeuw shows the king around in the lab, while labmanager Louise Elferink explains.

The ambition of ICER is both education about digital ‘making’ and the making of prototypes for the regional industry. It is well equiped with 8 Ultimakers, a Trotec lasercutter, a full color powderprinter ProJet 660Pro, a high res ProJet 3500 CPXMax and a Renishaw vacuum caster. With a metal printer on order.

The Innovation Center ICER  also houses the interactive iron museum and a workshop for conventional crafts for wood, ceramics, silk screen printing etc. Open access of the ICER-lab is Thursday and Friday afternoon.
